Allocation

Allocation you can read. Converge HCA shares measured totals back to the wells, fields and owners that produced them, over your network as it stood on each date, and shows the inputs, method, factor and formula at every node.

Allocation methods: pro-rata, well test, by-difference, fixed share and uncertainty-based

WHAT IT DOES

From a measured total to every contributor, with the working shown

Allocation starts from a measured total at a fiscal or allocation meter, and a theoretical volume for each contributor: a well test multiplied by hours on, a meter, or an agreed share. Converge HCA applies the method your agreement names at each node of the network, nested across as many levels as the facility has, for oil, gas and water, with BS&W and shrinkage to stock tank.

Every run is kept. It records the network version, the method and parameters at each node and a hash of its inputs, and it can be compared with the last run or last month. Runs are provisional during the month and final at month-end, so the close starts from numbers the team has already seen.

Uncertainty-based allocation weights each contributor by its measurement uncertainty, and reports the allocated uncertainty and the financial exposure per field and owner, so the cost of a poor meter is visible.

In the first release

  • Pro-rata allocation
  • Well-test allocation, rate × hours on
  • By-difference allocation with combined uncertainty
  • Fixed or agreed shares
  • Nested allocation across several levels
  • Oil, gas and water, with BS&W and shrinkage
  • Uncertainty-based allocation and exposure
  • Fuel, flare and vent allocation on the contract basis
  • Versioned runs you can compare
  • Daily provisional and monthly final runs

KEY CAPABILITIES

Methods, checks and history

Methods

The common allocation methods, chosen node by node.

  • Pro-rata: the measured total shared in proportion to theoretical volumes
  • Well test: test rate × hours on, net of BS&W and shrinkage for wet oil
  • By-difference, with the uncertainties of the measured streams combined
  • Fixed or agreed shares from the contract
  • Nested allocation across separators, facilities and fields

Checks that follow the agreement

The contract record holds the basis; the run is checked against it.

  • Allocation basis and fuel and flare basis held in the contract record
  • Allocated fuel, flare and vent never exceed the measured total
  • Factors outside the band flagged, never hidden
  • Volume used where the contract requires energy flagged

Edge cases handled in the open

The awkward cases have a defined answer.

  • A positive measured total with zero theoretical volume goes to a named suspense account
  • A shut-in well with a valid test gets nothing: zero hours means zero allocation
  • A mid-month network change splits the period at the change date
  • A negative uncertainty-based result is set to zero and the run re-solved, with a flag

Runs and history

Every run stays on record, exactly as it was.

  • Each run immutable, with network version, methods, parameters and an input hash
  • Compare a run with the last run or last month
  • Full precision through the run, rounded once at the end by the largest-remainder rule
  • Allocated uncertainty and exposure per field and owner on every run

WORKFLOW

From readings to allocated volumes

  1. Set up the network

Wells, separators, meters, tanks and pipelines with effective dates, drawn in Converge HCA or imported from Converge IOMT.

  2. Capture readings and tests

Daily readings and well tests, validated as they are entered.

  3. Set the rules

The method and basis at each node, held in the contract record.

  4. Run daily

A provisional allocation every day, with flags on anything outside the band.

  5. Run the final

The month-end run, with factors inside the band or explained.

  6. Pass it on

Allocated volumes feed terminal stock, entitlement, the close and, with both licences, Converge IOMT.

FAQ

Allocation: common questions

Which allocation method should we use?

The one your agreements specify. Converge HCA holds the basis for each node in the contract record and checks the run against it, and different nodes in the same network can use different methods.

What happens to volume that no well can take?

A positive measured total with no theoretical volume behind it goes to a named suspense account, where it stays visible until someone resolves it.

Can we see why a well’s volume changed?

Yes. Compare any run with the previous run or with last month: each node shows its inputs, method, factor and formula, so the change traces back to a reading, a test or a rule.

Is mass or component allocation included?

Not in the first release. Mass and component allocation, with recovery factors from Converge IOMT’s PVT models, is planned for the release after.
